Welcome to Wichtelfreund! We are a family-run company. And we know that happiness cannot be bought. But with our gnome doors and sets we bring a touch of magic, fantasy and excitement to the pre-Christmas period. The handmade sets make children's eyes light up. Together with the adults, the little ones travel to a world behind the gnome door, where life consists of hot chocolate, snowmen and pre-Christmas joy.
My name is Roman and I'm a dad. On a snowy November day in 2022, I remembered how magical the pre-Christmas period was for me as a child and started looking for an alternative to the classic Advent calendar for our children. It should be something that filled our home with wonder, magic and joy. And so I began to look at Christmas traditions in other countries.
In Scandinavia, elves visit people's homes during the Christmas season. In Norway and Denmark they are called "Nisse", in Finland "Tonttu" and in Sweden they are known as "Tomte". The elves are nocturnal, nobody ever sees them or knows exactly what they look like. During the day they disappear behind a tiny door. According to tradition, the little Christmas helpers watch over the house, the animals and the people at night. They are also considered Santa Claus and the Christ Child's assistants. They play pranks, help with the Christmas decorations and leave messages.
Unfortunately, we couldn't find a gnome door set on the market that met our expectations. So my wife and I spontaneously decided to put together our own set for our children from a mixture of dollhouse accessories and miniature Christmas decorations. The gnome behind the door was a complete success in our family and gave not only the children but also the adults unforgettable moments. For this reason, I finally decided not to keep our self-created gnome door sets just for ourselves any longer.
As an alternative to the Advent calendar, we have created elf door sets and matching cute accessories for you. These miniature objects arouse curiosity, stimulate the imagination and inspire the creativity of children. The little ones think up stories about the elf, try to secretly surprise him at work, make little things for his front garden and are full of anticipation and excitement every day. Every day the elf leaves small gifts, elf letters, recipes and tasks that encourage young and old to spend nice moments together.
By bringing the magic of Scandinavian traditions into your home, we want to give your home a dose of magic. We are determined to make the Christmas season unforgettable for your children and for you too. Every year, when the elf moves into your home again, new stories and ideas await you.
Just like Santa's little elves, we work tirelessly to perfect our elf accessories. As a family team, we test each of our creations ourselves. This way we can be sure that the joy our children feel when they wake up every morning during Advent with a new surprise will also reach your children.
